  Context please. Are they coming to your house and visiting or just loitering around the property? If the former tell them to stop for the sake of the  cat . I assume that they couldn't care for it and you took it in so just ask them to let the  cat  bond with you and tell them to let that happen for the cats happiness. Perhaps that will get through. If its the latter then they are trespassing and the conversation should be a bit stiffer, involve the police if needs be but in a “welfare" way. A stern word with a little compassion from authority may be enough to get the message across.   Go to a shelter or rescue with a room where you can sit and meet cats. Meet the cats. Hang out with them a while, and see which one wants your affection and seeks your lap. Also, the shelter and/or fosters may have information on the cat’s personality. If you go to a site like petfinder.com, there will often be personality descriptions.  All breeds have “lap cats” , and no breeds guarantee them. Maine Coon however, are more known for sitting next to you than on you, so that is not a way to go. (given how large they are, you’ll be grateful.) Ragdolls are the most laid back breed, good wtih being handled. But it is really an individual thing whether a cat wants to sit on you.   Would a magnet erase the data? The chips contain relatively little ferrite material so a standard magnet is unlikely to permanently effect the data stored in the chip.   Well, there are lots of ways to answer this, especially if like me you have had pets for years. But for me the most important thing has to be - take them for regular check ups to the Vet. I never had to do this until our most recent cat developed epilepsy at the age of 11 months. For the next 14 years we took him twice a year to the vet for a check up , moving to annually, even though his epilepsy disappeared mysteriously overnight (at about the same time my now ex husband did). It meant that he got his nails clipped, teeth checked, weight done and vaccinations. Peace of mind for us and a trip out for him (he loved the attention from the staff !)
