At no. 5 we have ‘Irish shepherds pie’. The author has this notion that its a twist that we use beef in it and call it a cottage pie. Not so. We have both shepherds pie and cottage pie here. Shepherds pie uses mutton- cottage pie uses beef. In either case- adding Guinness to it is a modern twist rather than a historic ingredient- which will have featured the ubiquitous carrot and onion.

Buy here:  Be you they’ll adjust shirt   At no. 8 we have ‘chicken and mushroom vol-au-vents’. Its another party food- this time for grownups, quite popular in the 1970s and 1980s in Ireland, but seldom seen since. I’m guessing from the name that it was introduced from France at some stage, and for a time- roughly 40 years ago- no self respecting dinner party was complete without these things. It may be in the recent memory of people who emigrated from Ireland in the 1970s and 1980s- but its no longer cherished in Ireland as it once was.

Buy here:    I don’t need a costume i’m a crazy dog mom my job title is scary enough shirt   At no. 2 - for some strange reason they feel the need to tell people how to cook cabbage. Its not rocket science- most of us have helped our mothers with the cabbage in the kitchen while still in preschool. The US version tends to feature copious amounts of melted butter- the Irish version, not.
