A rather famous Irish American dish is corned beef and cabbage. This one dates back to the influx of Irish and Jewish emigré to New York. Very often these two communities lived side by side, out of necessity, as both were at the bottom of the social ladder (at the time). So while they worked in different professions (a sizable number of Irish would have been dockers for example- whereas a lot of jewish would have drifted into various food businesses, including butchering (to ensure the provision of Kosher supplies)).

The one who told G—- it was okay to like girl stuff, to collect Barbies and wear a pink shirt every now and then. Now the Jewish butcher shops would not have stocked bacon (or any pork products)- so the Irish, instead of going further afield, would have tried to buy a local meat with which to recreate their beloved bacon and cabbage- and that meat very often was corned beef. As meat was a treat- it was devoured with relish- and a whole new myth about corned beef and cabbage grew up.
