G—- finally realized that G—- never really was here. It was always Jaime. She was the driver, the one who knew. The one who told G—- it was okay to like girl stuff, to collect Barbies and wear a pink shirt every now and then. To struggle to relate to his female friends and sometimes manage to be successful at it.

Buy here:  Be you they’ll adjust shirt   At no. 8 we have ‘chicken and mushroom vol-au-vents’. Its another party food- this time for grownups, quite popular in the 1970s and 1980s in Ireland, but seldom seen since. I’m guessing from the name that it was introduced from France at some stage, and for a time- roughly 40 years ago- no self respecting dinner party was complete without these things. It may be in the recent memory of people who emigrated from Ireland in the 1970s and 1980s- but its no longer cherished in Ireland as it once was.

Its not rocket science- most of us have helped our mothers with the cabbage in the kitchen while still in preschool. The US version tends to feature copious amounts of melted butter- the Irish version, not.
