Is now something of a memory. He’s still here, inside my heart. And we’re not fighting or mad at each other. He knows that I’ve been right all along, and in his own strange way, he’s glad about it. Glad about releasing control he didn’t really fully have to me, and trusting me to always do the right thing by him, and me, and everyone else we know and love.

Buy here:  Be you they’ll adjust shirt   At no. 8 we have ‘chicken and mushroom vol-au-vents’. Its another party food- this time for grownups, quite popular in the 1970s and 1980s in Ireland, but seldom seen since. I’m guessing from the name that it was introduced from France at some stage, and for a time- roughly 40 years ago- no self respecting dinner party was complete without these things. It may be in the recent memory of people who emigrated from Ireland in the 1970s and 1980s- but its no longer cherished in Ireland as it once was.

Its not rocket science- most of us have helped our mothers with the cabbage in the kitchen while still in preschool. The US version tends to feature copious amounts of melted butter- the Irish version, not.
