Really- it depends on what you mean by Irish-American foods- though very often they are Irish dishes, but with a twist to reflect the availability of ingredients that poor migrant Irish might have been able to find back in the 1830s/1840s/1850s. As for the ‘modern’ dishes- it looks like someone who came up with them was time warped from the 1980s- they’re mostly oldfashioned and quaint these days.

Its another party food- this time for grownups, quite popular in the 1970s and 1980s in Ireland, but seldom seen since. I’m guessing from the name that it was introduced from France at some stage, and for a time- roughly 40 years ago- no self respecting dinner party was complete without these things. It may be in the recent memory of people who emigrated from Ireland in the 1970s and 1980s- but its no longer cherished in Ireland as it once was.

Its not rocket science- most of us have helped our mothers with the cabbage in the kitchen while still in preschool. The US version tends to feature copious amounts of melted butter- the Irish version, not.
